A gift that a whole bunch of friends got this year and that I used as stocking stuffers were these heart pocket-warmers. (You’d never believe that I was making these during the day. The dark photos truly illustrate how constant the night is in my apartment in the winter. It’s permanently 7 o’clock in the evening…)
Here’s how I made them.
Using any fun fabric that you like trace out your design. remember to leave yourself about half an inch around the outside of your shape. Since I wanted hearts (I’ve never been one to make my life easy) I needed two templates. One for the final shape that I would sew, and one for the full area that I would cut out.
Cut out your pattern and, unless you have crazy sewing skills (which I do not), pin your two pieces together with the right sides facing in. Start sewing! Don’t forget to leave a gap so you can turn your pouch right side out.
All that’s left to do is flip your pouch right-side-out, fill it with rice, beans, or whatever filler you’re using and stich it closed. (as invisibly as you can).
Some fun packaging completes the gift. I thought it would be a good idea to include some instructions as well.
And there you have it. The finished pocket-warmers and cure for frosty fingers!
